Just Passing the Summer Days

A visit to a local farm for kids, Valleyview Little Animal Farm, left J thrilled to have fed all the goats and deer. We used to take A to the farm, years ago, when there were just a few animals and playstructures oh and the train. Now there is a museum with tractors, more animals, puppet shows, and more. We had a fabulous time and will be sure to go back soon (like on the long weekend for a corn roast.).

And yesterday it was off to a birthday party! J was one of the oldest, being almost four at a two year old's party. But, I couldn't have been prouder. He behaved so well and played with all the kids. He only really knew the birthday girl, and the two of them played very well together. He even managed to eat all the icing off of his cake before he realized it was cake!

Now, how on earth am I going to beat the last two days today, I don't have anything planned.

Summertime

It's officially SUMMER!!! Yay! My favourite season has arrived and ironically it is a cool 20 degrees and raining today. Despite the hot, humid weather we have been having summer chose to come in rather on the sly this year. That's ok we needed the rain for the grass, not ours because we water, but everyone elses burnt lawns need a little help.

On the first day of Summer I always seem to have this one hit wonder in my head. A song by LFO called Summer Girls. Something about the song makes me always think of the beach. You can hear it and see it on You Tube (I am so lame, I can't figure out how to stick the video in here to click on). Funny, when I was younger it was John Mellencamp's (then Cougar) Jack and Diane that made me think of the beach, then Bruce Springsteen took over and then did Bryan Adams, I guess it all depended on what was popular that summer. Then one day I heard Summer Girls and that is the last song that stuck in my head as a reminder for a long time.

Hubby decided the other day that this would be the year that we introduces A to Bruce Springsteen on the road. We will have to see how long it lasts because A does get grumpy when you make him listen to too much good music. One of the fun things about our new to us vehicle is that it has a 6 cd changer, so I loaded it with our usual driving music (plus J's Curious George) and have been enjoying a little of the good tunes for the last few days.

Today is not only the first day of summer but it is ultrasound day. Since I hit 30 weeks yesterday, I get to have another ultrasound to make sure the placenta is in the right place. Hopefully we will also get confirmation that we are indeed having a girl! And if it turns out to be a boy, J will be one unhappy little boy, but what can you do?

Wonderful Weekend

Words can't really describe the transformation our weather went through. We went from snowstorm on Monday to midsummer by the weekend. Complete with BBQ's, sprinklers and soaking in the sun. And yes, that is a new photo of J, complete with a new sunshirt. But because I bought his swimsuit bigger last year it still fits him! I may pick up another one just to be different.

J got a new telescope for his fort. It isn't really telescopic, but he doesn't need to know that. It's all about the fun.

Our grass seems to really have taken a hit from the good weather last fall, but we already have a plan in action to green it back up. Although we were super eager to get going on it this weekend we did have to remind ourselves that it was only April and we needed to wait a couple of weeks so we don't waste all our time.

One of the strangest things about this weekend was that the roads were quiet and the stores (except the lawn care centres) were quiet. It would seem that as soon as the weather is good everyone hangs out at home. Either in their own backyards or cleaning garages, we saw a lot of that this weekend.

It was so wonderful that we only stepped out for a few minutes each day to take a break from the sun and pick up a few necessities. All our neighbours that we haven't seen all winter were out in fine form and I got to start working on my tan. Unfortunately it won't be as dark as my little Sisters' but it is definately a start. The weatherman is forecasting more seasonable weather for the rest of the week, which will make it a good ten degrees cooler than it has been. But, hey, we got a good taste of summer and I like it!

I thought our weekend was really grand, then I got a photo from my Sister in Seaside, Florida where she was staying at a friends beach house for the weekend for a bachelorette. I included a photo so you could be just as jealous as I am.
